Core Web Vitals

Core Web Vitals are Google's three official page experience metrics — Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Interaction to Next Paint (INP), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) — used as ranking signals within Google's Page Experience framework.

Core Web Vitals measure the real user experience of loading and interacting with a page. LCP tracks how long the main content takes to appear — the threshold is under 2.5 seconds for "Good." INP measures how responsive the page is to user interactions like clicks and taps — the threshold is under 200ms. CLS measures how much the page layout shifts visually during loading — the threshold is under 0.1. Google incorporated these as ranking signals in 2021.

For B2B content sites, the most common CWV issues are: unoptimized images bloating LCP, third-party scripts (chat widgets, analytics, ads) degrading INP, and dynamically loaded elements like sticky headers, newsletter banners, and social proof widgets causing CLS. All three are fixable with targeted technical work rather than content changes.
